Stroke

Staten Island University Hospital, Long Island Jewish Medical Center and North Shore University Hospital have received the Gold level Performance Achievement Award from the American Heart Association’s Get With The Guidelines-Stroke Recognition Program.  They demonstrated 85% or greater compliance in each of seven core stroke performance measures for 24 consecutive months.  Huntington Hospital, Southside Hospital and Forest Hills Hospital have received the Bronze level award by demonstrating compliance with the core measures for 90 consecutive days.  These hospitals were listed in the July, 2008 “Best Hospitals” edition of the US News and World Report .

North Shore University Hospital successfully completed a one day on-site survey from the Joint Commission and has received Disease-Specific Care Certification for Stroke.  The survey process included demonstrating compliance with consensus-based national standards, effective use of established evidence-based clinical practice guidelines to optimize care and an organized approach to performance measurement and improvement processes.  They are the first hospital in the NS-LIJHS to receive this distinction.
