Susan Somerville, RN

North Shore University Hospital (NSUH)

Ms. Somerville is responsible for the daily operations of NSUH. Previously, she served as vice president of cardiovascular services for the health system. In this position, she was responsible for planning, managing, and coordinating strategies for cardiac services at North Shore-LIJ's tertiary and community hospitals.

Ms. Somerville joined NSUH in 1991 as a nurse coordinator in the hospital's division of cardiology. She was later promoted to director of cardiac patient care services, managing both diagnostic and procedural areas as well as the cardiac patient units.

Ms. Somerville began her career as a registered nurse at Winthrop University Hospital, Mineola. She has extensive experience in cardiovascular nursing, with clinical expertise in critical care units and cardiac catheterization labs. She is a vice-chair of the board of directors of the American Heart Association's (AHA) Long Island Region, and a member of the AHA Council on Cardiovascular Nursing and the American College of Cardiovascular Administrators.

Ms. Somerville earned a Master of Arts degree in healthcare administration from Hofstra University and attended the Wharton Fellows Program in Management for Nurse Executives at the University of Pennsylvania.
