Syosset Laboratory Receives $2000 Educational Grant
SYOSSET, NY – Syosset Hospital’s Lead Lab Technologist, Giacinto Gervasi, has recently been awarded Instrumentation Laboratory’s (IL) “Passion and Results” award for his contribution, dedication and advancement to the field of diagnostic patient care. Recipients were honored with an award and a $2,000 educational grant for their institution.
Mr. Gervasi, a resident of Farmingdale, NY, was chosen for an exemplary career as a laboratory technologist and for his unwavering work ethic. Starting his career as a laboratory medical technologist in 1966, he was drafted into the United States Army in 1968, and in 1970 received a scholarship for a Masters of Science degree in Immunohematology, which he received in 1972. He joined Syosset Hospital’s staff in 1993 as a laboratory medical technologist with a specialty in blood banking. Since then, he has been recognized as invaluable to the lab for his intelligence, enthusiasm, good judgment, and for being a resource for the entire staff. Adept with the laboratory and hospital information systems, Mr. Gervasi has also completed specialty training focused on blood coagulants and the development of anti-coagulants.
“Mr. Gervasi carries his responsibilities with intelligence, enthusiasm and good judgment,” said Ibrahim Hitti, MD, director of Syosset Hospital Laboratory. “He is always attentive to the needs of the nursing and medical staff and mindful of the turn around time required for our Rapid Response Laboratory. It gives me great pleasure to have nominated him for the prestigious ‘Passion and Results Award.’”
Despite health challenges endured over the past few years, he has maintained his outstanding attendance record with the same enthusiasm and zeal as ever. Mr. Gervasi’s hard work, dedication and attention to detail has provided the patients of Syosset Hospital with the best in diagnostic testing. He is planning to retire next year.
