Treatment

When you enter the Center for Wound Healing, you will be carefully assessed by members of the treatment team. They will review your medical history, and may order additional studies before developing a treatment plan. The Center's physicians will discuss your proposed treatment with both you and your own doctor and make periodic reports on your progress to your doctor.

Treatment can include:

  • Revascularization (restoring the blood supply)
  • Surgical debridement (removal of tissue) to speed healing
  • Microsurgery to replace damaged veins, arteries, muscles and skin
  • Infection treatment and control
  • Skin grafting using a bioengineered skin that encourages cell growth
  • Negative pressure wound therapy
  • Compression therapy
  • Therapeutic devices to relieve pressure
  • Pain management
  • Nutritional assessment and counseling

In addition, the Center gives patients information about support groups at Southside.
