Vocational Rehabilitation Training at NSUH

The Vocational Training Program at North Shore University Hospital’s Vocational Training Center was founded in 1970 to help individuals with various life challenges receive the guidance and training they need to become competitively employed. Most adults who have physical, emotional, learning or substance abuse problems are eligible for services.

Preparing people for the right job has been our job for more than 30 years.  The Vocational Training Center at North Shore University Hospital offers a range of services to help individuals with many kinds of disabilities.

What services does the Center offer and who is eligible?

  • Vocational Training Program

Vocational evaluations, counseling, training and job placement are available for individuals 18 years

and older with a diagnosed disability.

  • Return to Work Program

North Shore University Hospital employees with a work-related injury who require assistance returning

  to work.

  • Supported Employment Program

Assists individuals with psychiatric disabilities in obtaining and maintaining employment.

Nassau County Residents 18 years and older with a diagnosed psychiatric disability are eligible.

  • Intensive Psychiatric Rehabilitation Treatment (I.P.R.T.)

Assists individuals with psychiatric disabilities to achieve goals in the area of work, education, housing

and socialization through academically-oriented classes and individual counseling.

Individuals 18 years and older with a diagnosed disability are eligible.

  • Northern Lights Clubhouse

Assists individuals with psychiatric disabilities with vocational exploration, social skills and goal setting

strategies developed through acceptance and support.

Nassau County Residents 18 years and older with a diagnosed psychiatric disability who meet

Community Support Services (CSS) requirements.

  • Vocational Opportunities for Individualized Career Exploration (V.O.I.C.E.)

Assists students with career exploration and development of vocational goals.  Alternative program for students through the Committee on Special Education (CSE) to standard high school environment. Students between the ages of 16 and 21 who are eligible for special education services are eligible.

Clients may call the Vocational Training Center at 516-829-9666 between the hours of 9:00 A.M. and 5:00 P.M. Monday through Friday. 

What are the fees?

State and Federal agencies sponsor most individuals for our programs.  You may be able to use the Center’s services at no cost to you or your family.
