Wholeness of Life

The HealthCare Chaplaincy gives the Wholeness of Life Award annually to an employee who in the treatment of others (patients, family members and colleagues) demonstrates respect for human beings as whole persons, promoting health in body, mind and spirit.

Qualifications: a staff member (other than a chaplain) is eligible who:

  • In treatment of patients, their loved ones and staff colleagues demonstrates respect for human beings as whole persons.
  • Practices healthcare with an appreciation for the interrelated functioning of body, mind and spirit in illness and in healing.
  • Believes in and models the importance of teamwork among staff and across departments, recognizing that cooperation between colleagues can help to enhance the quality of life of patients.
  • In personal and professional life, embodies a substantial degree of wholeness in striving for a balance of physical, mental and spiritual well-being.
  • Is an employee of North Shore University Hospital. Consultants who are not directly employed by North Shore are not eligible to receive this award.

Nominations

Individual staff members and departments are encouraged to nominate colleagues they feel are deserving of this honor. Staff who have been nominated in other years but were not selected that year may be re-nominated. Any questions about the application may be addressed to the Pastoral Care and Education Department. The Pastoral Care and Education Advisory Committee will review all nominations and will forward a selection to the HealthCare Chaplaincy for its confirmation.

Deadline for nominations is Friday, March 5, 2010. Completed applications can be submitted by interoffice mail to the Pastoral Care and Education Department or by e-mail to jovervol@nshs.edu.
