Winnie Mack Named Executive Director at Southside Hospital

September 29, 2006

Southside Hospital today announced the appointment of Winnie Mack, RN, BSN, MPA, as executive director. With more than 35 years of healthcare experience as a nurse and administrator, Ms. Mack succeeds Michael Nolan, who is retiring after 34 years.

For the past two years, Ms. Mack has served as Southside's deputy executive director and vice president of patient services. "Winnie has done an exceptional job strengthening relationships with Southside's physicians, and helping to build and expand the hospital's clinical programs to fortify its position in a very competitive market," said Michael J. Dowling, president and chief executive officer of the North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health System, of which Southside Hospital is a member. "I'm confident that progress will continue."

Before coming to Southside in January 2005, Ms. Mack was the chief nurse executive and associate executive director at Franklin Hospital in Valley Stream and Syosset Hospital. Prior to that, she held a number of high-level administrative and nursing positions at Continuum Health Partners' in New York City, Winthrop University Hospital, Nassau University Medical Center and Stony Brook University Hospital.

She earned her master's degree in public administration and a Bachelor of Science degree from Long Island University's CW Post College, and her associate's degree from Nassau Community College.

Mr. Nolan has been a guiding force at Southside Hospital for 34 years as chief operating officer and as its chief executive over the past three years. "In the history of the hospital, few have contributed as much as Mike to Southside and the communities it serves on the South Shore," said Mr. Dowling. "We respect and appreciate everything Mike has done for Southside and wish him all the best in his retirement."

Southside is a 366-bed community hospital that offers high-quality care in medical, surgical, cardiovascular, neurological, obstetric, gynecological and pediatric specialties. It includes a state-designated area trauma center and stroke center, and the only state-designated, hospital-based adult brain injury rehabilitation program on Long Island. The hospital recently received state approval to become the first community hospital in Suffolk County to perform interventional heart procedures on an elective or non-emergency basis.
