Women's Colorectal Health
Dr. Angel has a special interest in colorectal disorders that pertain to women such as pelvic floor disorders, which are major life altering conditions that can affect women.
The effects of childbirth, aging, menopause, connective tissue disorders, prior pelvic surgery, and chronic straining on the female pelvic floor, has led to a national epidemic of pelvic floor disorders which include:
-
loss of bowel control
-
constipation
-
rectal pain
-
rectal prolapse
Increasing Colon Cancer Awareness
For many women, there is the misperception that colon cancer is largely a man’s disease and a quarter of American women think that men have a greater risk of colon cancer than women.
The fact is that there is no difference between men and women when it comes to getting colon cancer. In 2004, approximately 73,600 men and 73,320 women were diagnosed with colon cancer, and approximately 28,320 men and 28,410 women died from colon cancer in 2004.
Currently, colonoscopy is the gold standard screening tool for the detection of colon cancer. Dr. Angel performs colonoscopies at the new state of the art endoscopy suite located at the Center for Colon and Rectal Diseases in Great Neck, New York.
