World AIDS Day
December 1 is globally a designated day to raise awareness of HIV/AIDS. An estimated 33.2 million people worldwide live with HIV as of 2007. World AIDS Day is an opportunity to reduce the stigma and promote testing.
The North Shore-LIJ Health System is dedicated to the treatment of HIV/AIDS. Our Center for AIDS Research and Treatment is the largest New York State Designated AIDS Center on Long Island, providing primary care to over 800 HIV-infected individuals. The health system is involved in a number of World AIDS Day events and initiatives.
