Improving Substance Use and Clinical Outcomes in Heavy Cannabis Users with Quetiapine

Protocol ID

010-159B

Protocol Description

The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of the drug Quetiapine on reducing substance use in heavy cannabis users. The use of Quetiapine in this study is investigational because the FDA has not approved its use for cannabis dependence.

Participation in this study involves random assignment (like the flip of a coin) to take either Quetiapine or placebo (a “sugar pill”), interviews about your health, a physical examination by a doctor, assessments of your marijuana use, including any medication side effects, and a brief behavioral intervention to encourage sobriety. The study will take place at either the Zucker Hillside Hospital (at 75-59 263rd St., Glen Oaks, NY) or at the Feinstein Institute for Medical Research (at 350 Community Dr., Manhasset, NY).

There is no cost for participation and you will be compensated for your time and effort. Cost of transportation may be reimbursed.
