Fostering Careers
January 19, 2012
Lenox Hill Hospital and New Yorkers For Children recently hosted a unique career panel for more than 100 young people in foster care who are interested in careers in health care. Outcomes for young people aging out of foster care are generally poor, with approximately 25 percent of them becoming homeless at some point and the overwhelming majority ill-prepared for finding sustainable employment opportunities. North Shore-LIJ Health System President and CEO Michael Dowling participated in the workshops and panel discussions aimed at helping prepare individuals in foster care for future jobs that lead to self sufficiency and life-long success.
