Information for Applicants

Thank you for your interest in the Hofstra North Shore - LIJ General Surgery Residency Program.

Our program consists of 8 categorical residents per year and 16 preliminary residents.

Our program participates in the National Residency Match Program (NRMP). All applications must be submitted thru the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). All documents must be submitted through ERAS. Information outside of ERAS will not be considered in the application process.

Applications must include:

  • An official medical school transcript
  • Official exam transcripts for all applicable exams
  • A Dean’s letter and three letters of recommendation dated no more than 6 months prior to submission
  • A Curriculum vitae
  • A personal statement
  • A valid ECFMG certificate (if you graduated from medical school outside of the US or Canada)

All applicants must be US citizens or permanent residents. (No visas are sponsored by our program.)

Our application deadline is November 30th.

Interviews for the 2012 intern class will be held on November 22nd, December 9th, January 5th, and January 13th

If you are selected for an interview, you will be notified directly by the program administration.
