NEW HYDE PARK, NY – Long Island Jewish (LIJ) Medical Center's Katz Women's Hospital opened on the morning of January 26th and soon welcomed its first arrival -- baby Avital, daughter of Rosa Kichikova and her husband Ilya of Flushing, Queens. Ms. Kichikova, who has four other children, noted that the elegance of the new hospital made her feel like she was in a hotel.

With its own separate entrance, the Katz Women’s Hospital -- named in honor of  long-time trustee and former chairman, Saul Katz, and associate trustee Iris Katz -- features a range of maternity and gynecology services on four floors of LIJ’s new 10-story inpatient tower. The new facility, constructed at a cost of $300 million, includes 162 private rooms, including 88 single-bed rooms in the Katz Women’s Hospital, which houses one of the state’s busiest maternity programs with more than 5,000 babies delivered annually.

LIJ’s new inpatient tower – the largest expansion project in the history of the North Shore-LIJ Health System – also features the 60-bed Zuckerberg Pavilion.
