North Shore-LIJ Occupational and Environmental Medicine Center specialists serve as a consultative resource for clinicians and patients facing environmental exposures including:
- Heavy metals (lead, mercury, cobalt, etc.)
- Mold and other indoor air quality concerns
- Asbestos
- Chemicals (pesticides, solvents, etc.)
We also consult on work-related injuries and exposures.
In addition, we partner with unions, benefit funds and businesses in the area to enhance the health and safety of workers and lower overall healthcare costs. With over thirty years of experience in occupational and environmental medicine, our team will evaluate patients at the Center, and even their worksite if appropriate, and then send them back to the referring physician for treatment.
Occupational and Environmental Medicine is a discipline where clinical medicine, toxicology, and public health converge. It is a board-certified specialty in which physicians undergo at least three years of postgraduate training.
