WCBS-FM Radiothon Raises $261,000 for Cohen Children’s Medical Center
January 23, 2012
NEW HYDE PARK, NY -- A total of $261,295 was raised recently during WCBS-FM’s “CBS Loves Our Kids” Radiothon, which was broadcast live from Cohen Children’s Medical Center (CCMC) of New York’s CA Technologies Child and Family Activity and Resource Center. Funds raised will go to support the work of CCMC’s Child Life and Creative Art Therapy programs.
In addition to two days of radio coverage on WCBS-FM, there were recaps both mornings with WPIX-Channel 11 News, courtesy of CCMC’s relationship with Mr. G, a meteorologist for both the TV and radio stations.
CCMC’s child life specialists are the life blood of the hospital and help children, their parents and siblings cope with the anxieties that come with being a patient in the hospital. Child life specialists are trained in a variety of disciplines and offer different types of therapies for children and their siblings, including play therapy, music therapy, art therapy, pet therapy and horticultural therapy. Child Life also maintains an active calendar of programming for children to participate in either live or remotely through a closed circuit television service in every patient room. The Child Life Program touches tens of thousands of lives each year at CCMC and is entirely dependent on philanthropy for its sustenance and growth as there are no sources of reimbursement for this critical service.
Numerous companies and individuals from across Long Island and New York City supported CCMC through matching grants and merchandise certificates used as incentives for donors to call in, including: Delta Airlines, the New York Mets, the New York Yankees, 16 Handles, Scott and Franceen Silverman, Dennis Riese and Riese Restaurants, Ilori Eyewear, Nancy Waldbaum, The Bernice and Ira Waldbaum Family Children’s Program at the Sid Jacobson JCC, Friendly’s Restaurants, Capital One, Marriott Hotels, 1-800 FLOWERS.com, Optimum Lightpath, Mith the Salon, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Servoni, BMW of Bayside, and one anonymous donation from a member of the Board of Trustees of the North Shore-LIJ Health System.
