NEW HYDE PARK, NY — While the majority of people were home watching the big game on Super Bowl Sunday, Cohen Children’s Medical Center (CCMC) was playing host to the Roslyn Football League (RFL) and the Kids Give 360 Foundation. Started from a pickup football game held every Sunday at the Roslyn High School, RFL teamed up with “Kids Give 360,” a group of 30 men and their children who raised money to purchase iPads for CCMC patients.  iPads provide a great way to entertain kids during their hospital stay, instead of worrying about their illnesses or injuries.

Kids Give 360 was started in 2011 by the Weisser family of Roslyn, consisting of Michael and Carolinie Weisser, and their three children Justin, 8, Lucas, 6, and Laila 2. Mr. and Mrs. Weisser saw an opportunity to not only provide assistance but teach their three healthy children about the importance of giving back. The premise of Kids Give 360 is that kids in need would receive help but other kids would learn the lessons of giving and community service all at a young age. “It was very clear that not only had we raised money to help children in need, but also that our children received an invaluable life lesson in the process,” said Mr. Weisser, the president of Kids Give 360.

Donations like this are critical to CCMC’s ability to care for children and their families. In addition to playing games, CCMC’s Child Life Therapists and Chaplain use iPads to teach children about medical procedures they will be undergoing, ways to get and stay healthy and even use illustrated books in multiple languages to meet the unique needs of our diverse community.
