OYSTER BAY, NY -- Nobody did it better on July 13 at Planting Fields Arboretum State Historic Park in Oyster Bay. That’s because world-famous singer, songwriter and musician, Carly Simon, took center stage with her incredible band including both her daughter and son who accompanied her in the singing of some of her hits including, “Anticipation,” “That’s the Way I’ve Always Heard it Should Be,” “You’re so Vain,” and “Jesse.”
The North Shore-LIJ Health System’s sixth annual benefit concert, attended by nearly 1,000 of our closest friends, raised a record-setting $1.2 million for The Feinstein Institute for Medical Research. A gorgeous summer night set the tone for a fun-filled evening further enhanced by stunning décor, cocktails and a buffet dinner provided by Lawrence Gottesman, owner and president of Lawrence Scott Events, a generous supporter of North Shore-LIJ Health System Foundation.
Prior to Ms. Simon’s performance, the winner of the 2011 Fellowship Award was announced by Dr. Kevin Tracey, president of the Feinstein Institute, and presented by Diane Miller, daughter of Ruth and Leonard Litwin. This year’s award was given in honor of the Litwin’s, whose name graces the Litwin-Zucker Center for Research in Alzheimer's Disease and Memory Disorders at The Feinstein Institute. The award was presented to Dr. Daniel O. Griffin, Elmezzi scholar. Dr. Griffin has identified an immune cell that could hold the key to many diseases from pneumonia to lupus to coronary artery disease and even to Alzheimer’s disease.
