Stanley Katz, MD, received his medical degree from the University of Cape Town Medical School in South Africa and was trained in Cardiology at Montefiore Medical Center in New York. Upon completion of his training in 1978 he joined the faculty of Long Island Jewish Medical Center. From 1982 to 1991 he was Director of the Catheterization Lab at Winthrop University Hospital. He joined North Shore University Hospital in 1991 as Chief of Cardiology and Director of the Catheterization Lab. His field of expertise is interventional cardiology with a special interest in acute myocardial infarction intervention.
Dr. Katz is a Diplomat on the American Board of Internal Medicine and is board certified by the Subspecialty Board in Cardiovascular Disease and the Subspecialty Board in Interventional Cardiology. He is a Professor of Cardiology at Hofstra University School of Medicine, Senior Vice President of Cardiac Services for the North Shore-LIJ Health System, and was on the New York State Cardiac Advisory Committee for 10 years. Dr. Katz is also a member of the American Heart Association and a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology.
Alan R. Hartman, MD

Dr. Hartman came to North Shore University Hospital in 2002 as the Chairman of the Department of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery. He obtained his medical degree from Mount Sinai School of Medicine, where he received the Alpha Omega Alpha Award. Prior to that, he graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Rochester. His post-graduate medical training includes a residency in general surgery and a fellowship in cardiothoracic surgery at the prestigious NYU School of Medicine under the leadership of Dr. Frank Spencer. After completing his fellowship program, he joined the faculty at SUNY Stony Brook where he remained for ten years and was appointed Chief of the Division of Cardiovascular Surgery.
In 1996 Dr. Hartman entered private practice at Winthrop University Hospital, where he remained until being appointed Chairman of the Department of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery at North Shore University Hospital in 2002. Board certified by the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Thoracic Surgery, Dr. Hartman also holds the title of Clinical Associate Professor at the NYU Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery. His clinical interests include aortic aneurysm surgery, pulmonary embolectomy, valve repair, minimally invasive surgery, coronary bypass surgery and mechanical assist devices.

Bill joined North Shore University Hospital in 1998 as a cardiac nurse. He has held various management and administrative positions within cardiac services at North Shore University Hospital. His role expanded to the Assistant Vice President of Cardiovascular Services where he had clinical oversight of cardiac services across the health system. In 2012, Bill assumed his current position as the Vice President of Cardiovascular Services where he oversees the daily operations of cardiac services at our tertiary and community hospitals and ambulatory sites. He is responsible for the service line’s financial and operational performance, and works with senior administrators and physicians to develop strategic business plans and new programs.
Bill received his bachelor of science degree in psychology from Hofstra University. He graduated cum laude with a bachelor of science in Nursing from Molloy College and later received his master's degree in business administration from Hofstra University.Back to Top
