At Cohen Children’s Medical Center (CCMC), patient and family centered care remains at the core of our mission. Excellent care and superb service are hallmarks of our pediatric hospital. We treat more than 170,000 children per year, from the smallest babies to the most complex traumas. CCMC is the largest pediatric teaching hospital in the metropolitan region, which enables us to provide the most innovative therapies and procedures available.
We are expanding to meet the growing demand for our services. Construction is well underway to build an 115,000 square-foot, $130 million pavilion that will further enhance the hospital’s national reputation for excellence in pediatric healthcare. The need for specialized pediatric services has grown tremendously and this new addition will enable us to continue to be a truly world-class children’s hospital unmatched in the New York area.
The five-story, state-of-the-art pavilion will offer our patients access to the most advanced care, treatments and technologies in a family friendly environment.
The new building will feature:
- A pediatric emergency center, the region’s first dedicated, stand-alone pediatric emergency department. The center will be specially equipped to handle the needs of pediatric patients, from advanced, child-sized medical equipment to family-friendly waiting rooms. In addition, board certified pediatric emergency care physicians will staff the Emergency Department, supported by pediatric specialists in all areas of medicine and surgery.
- A pediatric medical/surgical unit that will include 25 private rooms with personal bathrooms. Patient rooms will also have a designated sleeping area for a parent, and the unit will provide family focused amenities such as shower facilities, wireless Internet, parent/family lounge and a dedicated playroom for patients.
- A 25-bed pediatric intensive care unit (PICU). The rooms can accommodate a parent for a continued stay with their child. Each room will contain the latest advanced monitoring equipment, and nursing functions have been decentralized to the bedside.
- A pediatric surgery center with dedicated, state-of-the-art pediatric operating rooms to serve a wide range of surgical needs. The center will also include child-friendly pre- and post-operating rooms. In addition, a real-time tracking system will keep families updated on their child’s status at all times.
