Visiting Guidelines

At Cohen Children’s Medical Center, family presence and involvement are key components of our philosophy of care. We value the need for family members to be together during a child’s stay in the hospital, while at the same time providing for the safety of our pediatric patients. We encourage parents/guardians to spend as much time as they can with their hospitalized child. We understand that families provide a constant source of support, and we encourage families to participate in their child’s care.

  • General guidelines for parents/guardians:
    • Parents/guardians are welcome to be with their child 24 hours a day.
    • One parent/guardian may stay overnight at the patient’s bedside.
    • If needed, social workers will assist with arrangements for housing at the  Ronald McDonald House .
  • Visitors:
    • All visitors must be infection-free regardless of age.
    • Visitors, other than siblings, must be at least 12 years old, and with an adult family member at all times.
      • Visiting hours are from 11:00am to 8:00pm
      • To provide a quiet and healing environment, no more than a maximum of two visitors in addition to a parent / guardian at a bedside at a time and one visitor in addition to parent / guardian in the intensive care unit.
    • Visitors must obtain and wear a visitor identification label while in the hospital.
      • Visitor identification labels may be obtained at the security desk located in the lobby.
  • Siblings:
    • Since family presence is supportive to the patient, we invite patients’ siblings (ages three to 12) to visit at the bedside as long as they are free of infection. Adult care providers are responsible for supervision of visiting siblings at all times.
    • In the name of patient safety and infection control, the play rooms are for patients only and visiting children under 12 years of age, including siblings may not enter play rooms.
    • In the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and the Bone Marrow Transplant unit, siblings under the age of 12 are welcome to visit with a referral to Child Life in order to provide the best experience for siblings and patients.   Please see the unit receptionist for more information.
