Fetal Echocardiogram
Fetal Echocardiogram
Pregnant women may be referred to the Fetal Cardiology Program by their obstetrician if they have gestational diabetes, an abnormal level II fetal ultrasound, a known or suspected fetal arrhythmia or a family history of congenital heart disease. Fetal echocardiograms are optimally performed between 18 and 22 weeks gestation. A typical visit includes a fetal echocardiogram to evaluate for possible abnormalities of the fetal heart and counseling by a pediatric cardiologist.
A consultation with one of our pediatric cardiothoracic surgeons may also be recommended to discuss potential surgical options, if appropriate.
The Fetal Cardiology Program offers outpatient consultations at the Children's Heart Center at Cohen Children’s Medical Center of New York, North Shore University Hospital, Nassau University Medical Center and the Center for Comprehensive Cardiac Care.
