Holter Monitor/Event Recorder
Holter Monitor
A Holter monitor is a small, portable heart monitor, about the size of a cell phone, which is attached to a few stickers on your child's chest. This device records your child's heart rhythm for 24 hours and can help diagnose fast or slow heart rates and abnormal heart rhythms. After the test is completed, the monitor must be returned to our office and will be reviewed by a pediatric cardiologist who specializes in heart rhythms (an electrophysiologist). Final results are typically available from your pediatric cardiologist within one week, who will discuss the results with your family.
Event Recorder
An event recorder is a special type of heart monitor which records brief periods of your child's heart rhythm when he or she has symptoms. This device may help diagnose abnormal heart rhythms that do not occur every day.
