Cancer and Blood Disorders
Children's Cancer Center
The specialized field of pediatric hematology and pediatric oncology work in tandem to evaluate, diagnose and treat children with cancer and blood diseases who range in age from infancy to young adulthood. Pediatric hematologists and pediatric oncologists treat young patients with conditions such as acute and chronic leukemia, solid cancers of childhood and adolescence, brain tumors, anemias, coagulopathies, aplastic anemia, blood dyscrasias, granulocyte abnormalities, ITP and platelet abnormalities and sickle cell disease.
Hope is what the Children's Cancer and Blood Disorder Center at Cohen Children’s Medical Center provides. Our internationally recognized pediatric hematologists and oncologists provide families with access to sponsored national and local clinical trials and state-of-the-science therapy.
Our specialized pediatric hematology and oncology team diagnoses and treats newborns, children, adolescents, and young adults with cancer and blood disorders. Our Children's Cancer and Blood Disorder Center is one of the largest in the New York metropolitan area, and our cutting-edge network of treatment and support systems includes highly specialized centers and programs and the latest stem cell transplantation services.
Our pediatric oncologists are not just cancer doctors, but are children’s cancer doctors, a specialty known as pediatric oncology. We understand that children are much different than adults. Children have needs that go beyond the treatment of cancer, and our pediatric oncologists care for their growing bodies and developing brains.
Our pediatric hematologists specialize in pediatric hematology which is the diagnosis and treatment of children’s blood disorders. Many blood disorders will need lifelong treatment, so as your child grows and develops, we will work to educate you as much as possible regarding your child's care.
Our Children’s Blood Disorder and Cancer Center is a specialized center of excellence, which also includes caring for cancer survivors. That is why we offer the Survivors Facing Forward Center. This center offers specialized support for children who have survived cancer. The Center aims to improve our patients’ overall health and quality of life, decrease the effects of complications associated with prior cancer treatments and provide a comfortable, comprehensive and accessible patient experience. It also serves as a resource center for other health care professionals caring for survivors
Your child is special to us, and we will help them through many difficult childhood diseases from cancer to rare blood disorders. We know that we are not just treating a disease. We are treating your child.
