Ambulatory Surgery Center

The "same day surgery unit" at Cohen Children’s Medical Center permits children to undergo surgery for many problems without the necessity of an overnight stay in the hospital. This spares the child the discomfort of hospitalization and permits healing at home.

An educational visit several days prior to the procedure allows you and your child to become familiar with the facility and to learn what to expect on the big day.  This helps reduce your child’s fears on the day of surgery. Parents are encouraged to be with their child as much as possible. A parent is almost always allowed to be present in the operating room during induction of anesthesia. Children are brought to the pediatric recovery room and parents see them shortly after their arrival.

After recovery, children are usually home by the afternoon.
