Neonatal Surgery

Cohen Children’s Medical Center is a regional, referral center for neonatal surgery.  Our pediatric surgeons have extensive experience in neonatal surgery. The ECMO (extracorporeal membrane oxygenation, temporary bypass for infants with severe respiratory diseases) program at Cohen Children’s Medical Center is one of the most active in the region and the only one on Long Island. 

Our surgeons are specially-trained in this technique and participate as members of the ECMO team with:

• Intensivists
• Perfusionists
• Nurses
• Respiratory therapists

ECMO is provided in the newborn and pediatric intensive care units.
