The Cancer Institute’s position as a main member institution in the cutting-edge National Cancer Institute-sponsored cooperative research program, “Cancer and Acute Leukemia Group B (CALGB)”, gives our patients access to the most current treatment approaches available. Our designation as a Community Clinical Oncology Program makes additional sponsored trials available to our patients. These trials are often conceived and developed by our own physicians.

The Hematologic Malignancy Service also incorporates the Human Progenitor Stem Cell Program at North Shore University Hospital. This program offers both autologous (self-donated) and allogeneic (matched from a related or unrelated donor) peripheral and bone marrow stem cell transplants as potentially creative therapies for many hematologic disorders.
