Radiology at Plainview Hospital
The Department of Radiology at Plainview Hospital provides imaging services for the surrounding communities on an inpatient and outpatient basis. The department is well-equipped to perform routine and specialized procedures and includes state-of-the-art GE ultrasound and MRI equipment and a GE interventional procedure suite, including a recovery room.
Our board-certified radiologists specialize in areas such as pediatrics, imaging, MRI and interventional procedures, and all of the radiologic technologists are registered and licensed by the state of New York.
The Department of Radiology at Plainview Hospital supports the Emergency Department 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
Services of the Radiology Department include:
- Routine Radiography
We perform all routine fluoroscopic and diagnostic X-ray procedures.
Ultrasounds are non-invasive diagnostic procedures used to assess soft tissue structures such as muscles, blood vessels and organs. All routine ultrasound procedures are performed, including color flow Doppler studies of the carotid arteries as well as arterial and venous studies of the upper and lower extremities.
- Computed Tomography (CT/CAT Scan)
CT scan is a diagnostic imaging procedure that uses a combination of X-rays and computer technology to produce cross-sectional images of any part of the body, including the bones, muscles, fat, organs and blood vessels. We perform full body scans with and without contrast material (a dye that can be injected or consumed to make structures and organs easier to see).
- Interventional Procedures
Interventional procedures combine imaging from CT to X-ray or ultrasound with some type of intervention. Angiography, angioplasty, intravascular stenting of blood vessels (except for those found in the heart), drainage procedures, insertion of PICC lines (peripherally inserted central catheter) and biopsies are also performed.
- Breast Localizations
We perform breast localizations, which is when a needle or wire is used to help the surgeon find the part of the breast that needs to be removed.
- MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging)
State-of-the-art MRI services are available. This is a diagnostic procedure that uses a combination of a large magnet, radiofrequencies and a computer to produce detailed images of organs and structures within the body.
- Nuclear Medicine
All routine nuclear procedures, which use very small amounts of radioactive materials (radiopharmaceuticals) to examine organ function and structure, are performed here. We also perform sentinel lymph node biopsies (removal and analysis of specific lymph node tissue).
The Department of Radiology has a dedicated and experienced staff that ensures smooth pre- and post-procedure patient care.
