Hematology-Oncology at LIJ
Hematology-Oncology is an active Division in the patient care area. Out-patient care is provided under a faculty practice plan. All hematology (malignant and non-malignant) and oncology related cases are seen by a faculty member, a fellow and PA and members of medical residency house-staff rotating through Hematology-Oncology. Those patients who require ongoing sub-specialty-based clinical care continuously remain with their respective team while others are referred back to their physicians after an initial consultation.
The Ambulatory Chemotherapy and Transfusion (ACT) unit is located within the out-patient faculty practice area and provides treatment services under the care of oncology-trained registered nurses over a period of 16 hours each day. In-patient care is provided for all patients on Oncology ward, Bone Marrow unit and other adult nursing units throughout the hospital.
Fellows, PAs and faculty constitute a team for each separate function: in-patient care, out-patient care and transplantation service. In addition, we have a large hemophilia comprehensive care service, which is part of the Hematology-Oncology program.
The Chronic Lymphocytic Research Program is a comprehensive clinical care and research center whose mission is to provide the best possible comprehensive care for those with CLL while offering the latest treatments and promoting clinical and basic science research into this disease.
