Center for Tobacco Control

Get Help to Stop Smoking

Smoking is the leading preventable cause of death and disease in the world today. The Center for Tobacco Control (CTC) specializes in the compassionate care of individuals who use tobacco products. We provide state-of-the-art tobacco prevention education, cessation services and clinical research in the area of nicotine dependence. The center was created by North Shore University Hospital staff, who are committed to reducing tobacco usage in the community.

We have helped thousands of Long Islanders quit smoking and have one of the highest success rates in the United States.

In 2004, the CTC received a grant from the New York State Department of Health’s Tobacco Control Program. The CTC is the designated Tobacco Cessation Center for Nassau and Suffolk Counties. This grant funding was renewed in 2009.

The grant activities include educating healthcare providers about evidence-based treatment of tobacco users. We are working collaboratively with all hospitals, clinics and physicians to ensure that patients are properly screened for tobacco use and provided assistance with quitting. Through this grant the CTC will work to make sure Nassau and Suffolk are among the leaders in the state in treating tobacco dependence.
