Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program

Pulmonary rehabilitation at NS-LIJ provides an educational and exercise program which helps patient cope with a wide variety of pulmonary diseases including COPD and emphysema.  It also helps prepares patients for thoracic (lung) surgery and provides support after surgery.

The program is designed to reduce patient hospitalizations, improve exercise tolerance, reduce shortness of breath, and improve a patient’s overall well-being.  It was one of only slightly more than a dozen programs that met the standards of the National Emphysema Treatment Trial (NETT).
