Injury Prevention Programs
Public and professional education programs are important facets of our trauma program. Our staff members every year educate over 600 students and seniors about trauma prevention through a variety of community programs. Topics covered include bicycle safety, burn prevention, medication interactions, fall prevention and playground safety.
Through the Nassau Regional Trauma Advisory Committee, the Traumaroo program helps children develop safe behavior patterns that will become lifelong habits. Troo the Traumaroo was developed in 1994 by the American Trauma Society to help reduce preventable injuries among children throughout the country. The Emergency Nurses Association Take Care program addresses public health issues such as safe medication use, fall prevention, safe mobility, safe driving decisions and pedestrian safety among older adults. We also actively participate in the Safe Kids Coalition and National Highway and Transportation Association initiatives.
