Cancer at Plainview Hospital

Plainview Hospital is dedicated to offering our oncology patients the highest standard of care in the most stress-free environment possible. We offer both ambulatory and inpatient treatment for patients with a wide variety of cancers. Our cancer program is accredited by the American College of Surgeons, thus requiring us to maintain a higher level of care and fulfill certain standards.

As part of the North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health System, we have access to clinical trials and additional special surgical and radiation techniques that other community hospitals don't have. In addition, through the health system we are now a community teaching hospital with a family practice residency program. We offer both ambulatory and inpatient treatment for patients with a wide variety of cancers. The Oncology Unit is staffed with oncology-certified nurses who are dedicated to providing their patients with individualized care.

We have many services that help diagnose as well as provide treatment and supportive care, including chemotherapy, pathology, radiology, complementary medicine, pain management services, social work, hospice, religious support, physical therapy and nutritional support. A solarium has been created so that patients may receive their treatment in comfort.

Hospice Program

End-of-life issues are an important part of cancer care. Our relationship with Hospice Care Network allows us to address these problems. Our oncology unit is equipped to handle the terminally ill patient in an environment that provides comfort, palliation of symptoms and support to the patient and family. In addition, patients can receive terminal care at home with hospice care support. Social workers and nurses will meet with the patient and family and decide on an appropriate course of action. If you have any questions about the program, please call Sharon Huff, RN Nurse Manager, at (516) 719-2385.

Support Programs

We have a strong outreach program to the community that includes health fairs, cancer screening programs, lectures and support groups. Please call Sharon Huff, RN, Nurse Manager, at (516) 719-2385, for more information.
