David Burkart, RN
It takes a special kind of person to dedicate their career to helping others not once, not twice, but three times. That’s what David Burkart, a retired police officer and emergency medical technician, did.
Two weeks after he retired from the Nassau County Police Department, David enrolled in Queensborough Community College’s nursing program. He graduated in June 2007 and chose North Shore University Hospital as his place of employment. He works on 3 Cohen, a medical floor where he felt he could learn a lot. He’s also not far from his wife, Patricia Burke, a secretary on 6 Monti.
David’s daughter was inspired by his career choice and has just passed her nursing boards and embarked on a career in labor and delivery at North Shore University Hospital.
