Radiology at Glen Cove
The Department of Radiology at Glen Cove Hospital provides diagnosis-imaging services to our inpatients and outpatients. The department received American College of Radiology (ACR)accreditation for its most current and sophisticated CT, Ultrasound, MRI and mammography services. The Department of Radiology plays an important role in cancer diagnosis, treatment planning through conventional techniques, and monitoring.
The Department of Radiology operates 24 hours per day, seven days per week. Physicians and specially trained technical staff (CT, Ultrasound and special procedures) are available via long-range beeper at all times.
Appropriate call schedules for all imaging modalities insure availability. In 2005, Glen Cove Hospital added one of the most advanced imaging tools available to the Radiology Department – a 16 slice spiral computed tomography (CT) scanner, which can perform a chest scan in a single breath hold, 40 times faster than with older CT technology. The scanner’s state-of-the-art technology provides clinicians with a unique feature called variable speed scanning, which offers greater flexibility to customize patient procedures and perform new types of patient exams. The scanner offers fast, accurate scan times, which translates into faster patient exams. In addition, the department will be installing a Picture Archiving and Communications System (PACS) at the end of 2006, that will tie into the scanner and allow physicians to view their patients’ scans from their offices.
