Thyroid Cancer

Thyroid cancer is cancer that originates in the thyroid gland, the organ located at the base of the throat. This gland makes the hormones that help control heart rate, blood pressure, body temperature and weight.

As with all types of cancer, the Cancer Institute at North Shore-LIJ takes a multidisciplinary approach to treat patients with thyroid cancer. The treatment team consists of head and neck surgeons, endocrinologists, surgical oncologists, radiation oncologists, radiologists, pathologists, oncology nurses and social workers, who work together to provide the highest quality of care for the diagnosis, treatment and support to people with this disease.
