Functional MRI

Functional MRI uses the ultra high field strength 3.0 Tesla magnet. Areas of activation can be superimposed over images of the brain to determine the location of important centers, such as the motor or sensory strip, or language or memory centers. Patients are given tasks to perform while imaged, and images are post processed with sophisticated computers so these highly important centers can be localized in patients with tumors, AVM’s or other lesions that need to be removed. This can help the surgeon ensure the least amount of post operative impairment.
