North Shore-LIJ Health System’s CirrusHealth Receives Honorable Mention in Dignity Health and Box Developer Challenge

CirrusHealth, the next generation, patient-centered transition-of-care-platform developed by the neurosurgical team at the North Shore-LIJ Health System’s Lenox Hill Hospital (LHH) has received an honorable mention for “Most Innovative” patient education submission in the nationwide Box and Dignity Health Patient Education App Challenge, the health system announced today.

CirrusHealth was selected from more than 150 applications and was named one of five finalists -- the only finalist based entirely within a hospital or health-care system.

In October 2013, Box, a cloud-based content and collaboration management platform, partnered with Dignity Health and the Social+Capital Partnership, a venture capital firm in Silicon Valley, to find developers who are revolutionizing the way doctors educate patients.

“In our nationwide competition to identify how developers are revolutionizing patient engagement, we are proud to award CirrusHealth with an honorable mention for most innovative new category for patient education,” said Missy Krasner, Managing Director of Healthcare and Life Sciences, Box.  “CirrusHealth is pioneering a new movement around personalization of patient/doctor content in an innovative way to form a high moment of influence around patient engagement.”

CirrusHealth’s first app offers patients a virtual-office-visit (VOV) and video discharge summary (VDS) focused on providing highly personalized multimedia education content to support patients from one level of care to another. The patient education component includes personalized VOV and VDS information that patients can access from home computers and mobile devices.  The product includes information regarding a patient’s diagnosis, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computed tomography (CT) scans, recommended treatment options, prescribed medications, admissions process, day of surgery information, discharge summary and post surgery care.

Langer, MD, LHH’s director, neurosurgery. “We are developing an innovative cloud-based HIPAA compliant software platform that will bring the patient experience to a whole new level by using video and other multimedia tools to improve the patient experience and, ultimately, further engage patients in their own care.”
