Neurosurgeons and neurologists from North Shore-LIJ’s Cushing Neuroscience Institute (CNI) have been named as recipients of the 2013 Patients’ Choice Awards.  Only physicians who have received top scores by their patients and pass other quality measures are awarded this honor.

Every month, more than 200,000 patients across the United States access websites such as Vitals (www.vitals.com), to share feedback about their experiences with their doctors.  Patients rate various components of patient care they receive such as the accuracy of their diagnosis, the amount of time they spent with the doctor, the doctor’s bedside manner and follow-up care.  Patients’ Choice ranks the top reviewed physicians and looks at other quality measures to compile its yearly list.

The neurosurgeons and neurologists from North Shore-LIJ’s Cushing Neuroscience Institute who were named as recipients of the 2013 Patients’ Choice Awards include:

Paolo Bolognese, MD (neurosurgeon), associate director of CNI’s Chiari Institute; associate professor of neurosurgery at the Hofstra North Shore-LIJ School of Medicine

About the Patients’ Choice Awards

Patients' Choice recognition reflects the difference a particular physician has made in the lives of their patients. The honor is bestowed to physicians who have received near perfect scores as voted by patients.

Every month, more than 200,000 patients across the U.S. provide online feedback about their experiences with their doctors. They rate various components such as bedside manner, doctor-patient face time, degree of follow-up, courtesy of office staff, and overall opinions.

Over the course of 2013, these doctor reviews have totaled hundreds of thousands patient opinions. While physicians generally receive positive reviews from their patients, only a select few receive uniformly rave reviews across the board. Of those who have received rave reviews with near perfect scores by their patients are awarded this honor.

In fact, of the nation's 720,000 active physicians, only 5% were accorded this honor by their patients in 2013.  For more information, go to patientschoice.org.
