To optimize and diversify the clinical experience, our medical toxicology fellowships are affiliated with the New York City Poison Control Center, the Long Island Jewish Medical Center, Cohen Children’s Hospital Center and Staten Island University Hospital.
Medical toxicology fellows are also extremely involved in a faculty practice toxicology clinic where patients exposed to sub-acute or occupational/environmental poisonings are evaluated. Medical toxicology fellowship training is thus diversified with respect to learning about clinical problems in various settings.
Our two-year medical toxicology fellowship program offers excellent research opportunities in clinical medicine, as well as basic science, with access to state-of-the-art laboratories on campus. North Shore University Hospital is in the top 10% of all institutions nationwide receiving funding from the National Institute of Health (NIH). Faculty mentoring and support is tailored to each fellow’s individual interests. Additionally, the fellow is assisted by a full-time research director and research assistants.
The North Shore-LIJ Medical Toxicology Fellowship Program currently accepts two fellows per year. The fellows are paid according to their PGY level. Clinical responsibilities in the Emergency Department do not exceed 12 hours per week.
The successful applicant will have satisfactorily completed residency training at an ACGME accredited program and have an interest in medical toxicology. Applications for a medical toxicology fellowship are accepted for applicants who have successfully trained in pediatrics, internal medicine, or emergency medicine.
