Our Staff

The North Shore-LIJ Health System Corporate Security and Emergency Management team is comprised of emergency service professionals with extensive experience in law enforcement, fire services and emergency management. Our team members have worked for the FBI, NYPD and many other emergency service agencies.

James Romagnoli

James Romagnoli
Vice President, Corporate Security and Emergency Management

James Romagnoli joined the health system in 2002, after a long career in the New York City Police Department. He also worked with the Nassau County Fire Service for 29 years, serving as the fire chief of the New Hyde Park Fire Department. Romagnoli is responsible for maintaining regional situational awareness for the health system, and responding to and managing all emergencies at any of the health system facilities.

Scott Strauss

Scott Strauss
Director, Corporate Security and Emergency Management

Scott Strauss joined the North Shore-LIJ Health System in 2004 as the Director of Corporate Security and Emergency Management. He is responsible for the supervision of all investigations of health system matters and the coordination of local, state and federal law enforcement entities with the system. He is also charged with the development, organization, planning, coordination and enforcement of all security and emergency management programs. Prior to joining North Shore-LIJ, Strauss served in the New York City Police Department’s Emergency Service Unit. He also served as chief of the Mineola Fire Department, which he has been a member of for more than 30 years. He also serves as mayor of the Incorporated Village of Mineola.

Mary Mahoney

Mary Mahoney RN, MSN, CEN
Director, Emergency Planning and Preparedness
 
Mary Mahoney joined the North Shore-LIJ Health System in 1999. She has extensive emergency and pediatric emergency nursing experience, working in level 1 trauma centers in New York City and Nassau County. In her current role, Ms. Mahoney serves as the director of Nassau County’s Regional Training Center, serving as the lead liaison to local, state and federal agencies. She also serves as Deputy Commander of Disaster Medical Assistance Team (DMAT) NY-5, based in Long Island.

Joseph Clark Joseph Clark
Manager, Security Investigations

Joseph Clark is an investigator for the Division of Corporate Security and Emergency Management. Prior to joining the North Shore-LIJ Health System in 2011, he was a bodily injury/general liability investigator for the Liberty Mutual Insurance Group. Mr. Clark has 20 years of law enforcement experience. He served in the Emergency Service Unit of the New York City Police Department, as well as the FBI/NYPD Joint Organized Crime Task Force. He currently serves his community as a firefighter in the Garden City Volunteer Fire Department.

Anthony Egan

Anthony Egan, MSN
Manager, Security and Emergency Training

Anthony Egan has been with the North Shore-LIJ Health System since 2009. He began in health care in 1989 as an emergency medical technician and has advanced to his current position as manager of emergency training, through a number of hospitals in the tri-state area. He is also a firefighter with the New York City Fire Department. Mr. Egan holds a bachelor of science in finance from Iona College and a bachelor of arts in nursing from Molloy College. He also has a master’s degree in nursing informatics and nursing administration from Molloy College.

Francis Califano

Frank Califano, BS
Emergency Management Coordinator

Frank Califano has been with the North Shore-LIJ Health System since 1991. Prior to joining the Emergency Management Division, he was a paramedic in the NSLIJ Center for EMS and an ER technician at North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset. He holds a bachelor of science in emergency management from Empire State College and is currently pursuing his master’s certificate in executive leadership from University Notre Dame. He is also certified in NREMT-P.

William Proctor William Proctor
Investigator

William Proctor is an investigator for the Corporate Security and Emergency Management division of the North Shore-LIJ Health System. Prior to joining the health system in 2005, he worked in law enforcement for 20 years. Proctor was a police officer for the New York City Police Department and the Amtrak Police Department.

Joe Martino

Joseph Martino BS
Emergency Management Coordinator

Joseph Martino has been with the North Shore-LIJ Health System since 2003. Prior to joining the Corporate Security and Emergency Management division, Mr. Martino was a paramedic and command and control operator in the North Shore-LIJ Center for EMS. He holds a master of science in emergency services management from Columbia Southern University and is a certified EMT-P.

Michael Crosby Michael Crosby
Corporate Investigator

Michael Crosby has been with the North Shore LIJ Health System since 2011. After retiring from the New York City Police Department, he became an investigator for the NYS DOH-Office of Medicaid Inspector General –Bureau of Investigations & Enforcement. Mr. Crosby holds a bachelor of science in criminal justice from St. John’s University and a master’s degree in education from Adelphi University.

Joseph Mackey Joseph Mackey
Corporate Investigator

Joseph Mackey has been with the North Shore LIJ Health System since 2012. Prior to joining the North Shore-LIJ corporate security team, he was the Director of Intelligence in the Office of the Inspector General NYC School Construction Authority. Mr. Mackey also served in the New York City Police Department for 21 years.

Stephen Scymcyk Stephen Scymcyk
Emergency Management Coordinator

Stephen Scymcyk joined our team at the North Shore LIJ Health System as an emergency management coordinator in 2012. Prior to joining the department, he spent 30 years in law enforcement with the New York City Police Department and Nassau County Police Department. Mr. Scymcyk is the second deputy chief at the Nassau County Fire Academy. He also possesses certifications from the DEA, NYSDCJS as well as being an AEMT.

Glenn Schaefering
Emergency Management Coordinator

Glenn Schaefering joined the North Shore-LIj Health System in 2005 as an emergency management coordinator. Prior to joining the health system, Glenn was a supervisor for Nassau County Police Department’s Emergency Ambulance Bureau. He holds a bachelor of science in emergency management from Empire State College along with master’s degree in Community Health Education from Adelphi University. He is also certified in NREMT-P.

  Michael DeGregorio
Investigator

Michael DeGregorio joined the Health System in 2012 as an investigator. He currently works for the New York City Police Department, as well as a volunteer fire chief. DeGregorio assists both Corporate Security and Emergency Management in daily operations.

Lee Genser

Lee Genser, JD
Investigator

Lee Genser joined the Network Emergency Management and Corporate Security Department in 2008. He primarily assists with new applicant investigations for the health system as well as responding to any emergency management incidents. He is a certified AEMT and serves as a line officer in the Manhasset-Lakeville Fire Department Ambulance Unit. He holds a jurist doctorate from Touro College.

Tom Greer Thomas Greer
Investigator

Thomas Greer has been with the North Shore-LIJ Health System since 1995. He began in health care in 1981 as an emergency medical technician. He is a former New York City police officer and police academy instructor since 1986. Greer has been a Nassau County Highway Patrol motorcycle officer since 1994. Mr. Greer holds a bachelor of science in business  management from St Johns’ University. Mr. Greer is also a NYSDCJS certified master police instructor and security guard instructor.

Dawn Marie Larmony Dawn Larmony
Administrative Manager

Dawn Larmony has been with the North Shore-LIJ Health System since 1997.  Prior to joining the North Shore-LIJ Corporate Security team, she worked for the Center for Emergency Medical Services. Mrs. Larmony has held other positions in the health system as a senior executive assistant in Corporate Administration and has also worked as a patient representative, risk management assistant and an executive assistant to the CEO for Long Island Jewish Medical Center.  She has a master’s of science in counseling from Long Island University.

Kerry Destefano Kerry DeStefano
Executive Assistant

Kerry DeStefano has been with the North Shore-LIJ Health System since 2005.  She joined the Corporate Security and Emergency Management team in 2008 when she became executive assistant to James Romagnoli.  Mrs. DeStefano is responsible for coordinating the Corporate Security office.
