Pulmonary fibrosis, also called interstitial lung disease, is a common term that includes 130 to 200 chronic lung disorders, which may be chronic, nonmalignant and noninfectious. With pulmonary fibrosis, the tissue between the air sacs of the lungs called the interstitium is affected by fibrosis (scarring).
