Sexual Dysfunction Symptoms and Causes
Sexual dysfunction causes can be both physical and psychological problems and is one of the most common health problems affecting men. A sexual problem, or sexual dysfunction, refers to a problem during any phase of the sexual response cycle that prevents the individual or couple from experiencing satisfaction from the sexual activity.
The main types of male sexual dysfunction are:
- Low libido (sexual interest)
- Erectile dysfunction
- Premature ejaculation
- Delayed or inhibited orgasm
- Physical abnormalities of the penis
Sexual dysfunction causes can include physical problems such as diabetes, heart and vascular (blood vessel) disease, neurological disorders, hormonal imbalances, chronic diseases such as kidney or liver failure, and alcoholism and drug abuse. Medications can also be a cause. Psychological causes of sexual dysfunction causes can also include stress, anxiety, relationship problems, depression, feelings of guilt and the effects of a past sexual trauma.
