Anesthesiology
The Department of Anesthesiology at Forest Hills Hospital consists of many highly trained physicians and certified registered nurse anesthetists, many of whom are fellowship-trained and board certified in various subspecialties in anesthesia. The anesthesia team provides services in the main operating room and the obstetrical and ambulatory suites.
Patients requiring anesthesiology services can be assured that their physical and emotional needs will be considered for the proper course of anesthesia and that their past medical histories will be carefully reviewed prior to surgery. An anesthesiologist will discuss with each patient what to expect before, during and after surgery and will be available to answer any questions the patient may have. For our obstetrical patients, anesthesiologists provide round-the-clock coverage in state-of-the-art suites. All maternity patients are advised to meet with an anesthesiologist to determine the best method of care for labor and delivery.

Bariatric Surgery
Bariatric surgery helps severely and chronically overweight people who have found diet and exercise to be ineffective. The Bariatric Surgery Program at Forest Hills Hospital is a comprehensive program offering care before, during and after surgery, including medical screening, help with insurance approvals, nutritional guidance, post-surgical care and support groups to help ensure weight-loss success.
The program follows standards compliant with the safe practices of bariatric surgery as set forth by the policies of North Shore-LIJ Health System and the guidelines of the American Society of Bariatric Surgery.

Urologic Cancer
We provide expert diagnosis and treatment of all urologic cancers, including kidney, prostate, bladder and testis. For prostate cancer, nerve-sparing surgery performed at our institution has improved potency following surgery. In combination with our Division of Radiation Oncology, brachytherapy (radioactive seed implantation) can be performed for prostate cancer as well.
Cancer Prevention and Early Detection Programs
- Breast and cervical cancer screening program — operated in partnership with the American Cancer Society
- Provides free mammograms, pelvic exams, pap tests and several follow-up procedures free of charge to women who are uninsured
- PSA testing — conducted several times each year
- Smoking cessation program — self-help group meetings on-site and referral to off-site program
- Public education programs — health fairs, lectures at community centers, churches synagogues, etc.
- Cancer survivors group — meets every fourth Wednesday of the month at 6pm

Department of Medicine
The Department of Internal Medicine at Forest Hills Hospital provides comprehensive health services for adults, from health screening and prevention to care of complex, chronic illnesses. Our tradition of clinical excellence is consistent with our commitment to addressing the needs of our patients.

Department of Medicine Programs
Hospitalist Program
Hospital medicine is a specialty in which physicians focus on caring for patients in the hospital. These physicians are called hospitalists.
When compared to physicians who have a combination of inpatient and outpatient practices, hospitalists have been shown to improve mortality, patient satisfaction, re-hospitalization rate, length of stay, overall cost effectiveness and both resident and nursing satisfaction.
Hospitalists at Forest Hills Hospital serve as attending physicians for patients admitted to medicine units and provide high quality care to acutely ill patients with complex medical problems including diabetes, hypertension, infections and multiple organ system disorders.
Upon discharge, your hospitalist will be in touch with your primary care physician to discuss additional treatment, help arrange any follow up care and prescribe medications. The hospitalist discusses the discharge medications and follows up with you.
Specialty Medical Center at Forest Hills
The Specialty Medical Center at Forest Hills consists of primary care physicians who work together to provide comprehensive care for patients both young and old. When needed, our physicians can admit patients and manage their care at Forest Hills Hospital, less than a mile away.

Endocrinology
The Department of Endocrinology at Forest Hills Hospital provides on-site diagnostic testing and treatment for all endocrine and metabolic disorders. These include diseases of the adrenal, parathyroid, pituitary, thyroid and gonads; diabetes; hyperlipidemia; bone and muscle disorders; hypoglycemia; endocrine consequences of genetic disorders and metabolic diseases.

Home Healthcare — Home Care
The North Shore-LIJ Home Care Network provides a broad range of home care services for all patients from infants to the elderly. Services may include: nursing, physical and occupational therapy, speech/language pathology, wound and skin specialists, social work and home health aides. Services may be covered through Medicare, Medicaid and Managed Care insurance plans. Private pay home aide services are also available.

Hospice Care
For those with advanced illness, North Shore-LIJ Hospice CareNetwork provides compassionate and expert care directed to alleviation of symptoms and improved quality of life. A team of nurses, social workers, home health aides, chaplains, dietitians and volunteers are available to assist the patient and family. A hospice physician is also available for consultation and home visits. Medication equipment and supplies are provided. Nurses are available 24/7 to respond to questions and concerns. If hospice care was not chosen during your hospitalization, hospice can be considered after discharge. Our Department of Radiology consists of fellowship-trained radiologists who lead a group of radiologic technologists, mammography technologists, nuclear medicine technologists, sonography technologists, physician assistants and nurses.

Nephrology
The Department of Nephrology at Forest Hills Hospital diagnoses and treats all forms of kidney disease. Diagnostics include renal sonogram and renal biopsy. We also provide dialysis, hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis on-site and refer patients to outpatient facilities for continued care.

Neuroscience
Forest Hills Hospital is a New York state-designated stroke center and provides emergency care for neurologic emergencies, general neurology and neurosurgery and diagnostic tools for neurological disorders.

Orthopaedics
The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Forest Hills Hospital is part of an extensive network of world-class resources available through the Orthopaedic Institute at North Shore-LIJ Health System. Our center offers a multidisciplinary orthopedic program designed for patients with conditions that require hip or knee replacement surgery. From pre-operative patient education seminars through post-operative therapy and rehabilitation, the Joint Replacement program is a collaborative treatment approach to assure patients and their families a successful, pleasant recovery.

Podiatry

Smoking Cessation

Women’s Health
The Women's New Life Center at Forest Hills Hospital is a comfortable, private, state-of-the-art outpatient facility dedicated to the unique health needs of women of all ages. Our physicians are experts in diagnosing and treating female medical disorders, as well as in determining the source of the problem in order to prevent recurrence. The entire staff is specially trained to be courteous and discreet and to offer emotional support when needed.
Conveniently located on the second floor, our center features its own private entrance, an inviting waiting room, individual examination rooms and beautiful labor-delivery-recovery suites that feature the latest in medical technology.
At our center, nursery security is always a top priority. Every infant is equipped with a high-tech electronic tracking device, so you can be assured that the only people handling your baby will be authorized personnel and you. Our Level 2 Nursery is a highly specialized unit for newborns requiring particular care. Its staff, which applies a collaborative approach, is specially trained and has the equipment and supplies for the best treatment possible.

Wound Care
Our comprehensive and individualized medical care can often heal the most difficult non-healing wounds, which compromise quality of life and threaten permanent disability and possible limb amputation.
Sometimes special reconstructive surgery is required as part of chronic wound management and successful wound closure. Our institute has one of the most advanced and experienced surgery groups in the nation. Our team routinely conducts complex surgeries that include rotated and advanced flaps, free flaps, skin grafting and surgery in tissues that have been exposed to radiation in the treatment of cancer.
