Amityville, NY— South Oaks Hospital and Broadlawn Manor Nursing & Rehabilitation Center announced today they have been awarded the American Heart Association’s Gold Fit-Friendly Award for the second year in a row.

“This award validates our efforts as an employer to promote a wellness culture for all of our employees,” Robert E. Detor, president and chief executive officer of South Oaks and Broadlawn Manor, said in accepting the award on April 25. “We promote a strong focus on worksite wellness designed to be culturally sensitive and all inclusive. The benefit of a healthy program for our employees extends well beyond the workplace.”

Heart Disease is the number one killer in the United States and physical inactivity doubles that risk.  South Oaks and Broadlawn Manor are situated on a smoke-free campus with an environment conducive to healthy behaviors, including walking paths, yoga, weight loss management and incentives, fitness center, intramural basketball, stress management and a broad range of activities during the calendar year to support a culture of wellness.

“We are honored to be distinguished by the American Heart Association as a Gold Fit-Friendly Company,” said Mr. Detor. “Employees are a priority and they value the opportunities offered to participate in activities focusing on individual and family wellness. Worksite wellness is part of our mission, We Care for People, and we recognize our efforts can help to make a difference and lower the risk of heart disease.” Further benefits include decreased direct healthcare costs, improved healthcare, increased job satisfaction and lower rates of absenteeism.
