Wedding Vow Renewal Ceremony At Broadlawn Manor Nursing & Rehabilitation Center

June 10, 2013

Kathleen and Thomas Brandt

Amityville, NY-- Seventeen couples were joined by family, friends and staff on a recent beautiful spring afternoon at Broadlawn Manor Nursing & Rehabilitation Center to celebrate their lives together and renew their vows.

Couples together for 36 to 67 years participated in renewal ceremonies celebrating their journeys, which encompass sacred vows, commitment, sacrifices, challenges, children, grandchildren, joys and sorrow. Local religious leaders were invited to preside over the ceremonies.

The Rev. Randolph Geminder from St. Mary’s Church in Amityville greeted all the couples as they filed into the dining room and Gerard Kaiser; vice president of senior services at Broadlawn Manor, welcomed the couples, families, friends and staff.  Ms. Jean Salvato, a member of the therapeutic recreation department, introduced the clergy performing the ceremonies: the Rev. Emanuel Otiaba, Chaplain at St. Joseph’s Hospital; the Rev. David Anglin of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Amityville; and Rabbi Mickey Baun, Director of Education at Temple Beth Am in Merrick.

The Jewish couples were presented with a beautifully framed Ketubah, signed by Rabbi Baun and donated by Ms. Rhonda Faulkner.  A ketubah is considered an integral part of a Jewish marriage, outlining the rights and responsibilities of the couple.

Each ceremony was a little different, yet the common thread was the couples’ love for each other, which was clearly evident.  The ceremony was followed with congratulations, music and some very tasty wedding cake.

“Our couples smiled, cried, held hands and gave loving glances. Anyone who attended was moved by their commitment and journey, said Gerard Kaiser, vice president of senior services at Broadlawn Manor.  “I am very proud of our therapeutic recreation department for planning such a memorable event and I am grateful to our religious leaders for their time and support.  Broadlawm Manor values the opportunity to create wonderful memories and enhance quality of life.”
