Franklin Hospital Raises $18K toward Breast Cancer Charity
November 1, 2012
In one week, Franklin Hospital staff members and volunteers raised approximately $18,500 that will be donated to the American Cancer Society’s breast cancer division.
The fundraiser was organized by nurse manager Jacqueline Espejo, a five-year survivor of breast cancer. According to Ms. Espejo, the fundraiser was important to her personally and to the hospital because of the increased number of cancer survivors cared for at Franklin.
Hospital staff members and volunteers sold raffles for a Chinese auction and also raised money through a website. Each department of the hospital reached from the heart to donate a basket for the auction; some of the 28 baskets included items such as an iPhone 5 and iPad.
Educational pamphlets about early detection were also available to participants.
“It’s very rewarding talking to people about early detection,” said Ms. Espejo. “I’m so proud of all of the staff and volunteers who helped with this fundraiser. They did a great job.”
The fundraising week culminated with a “pink day” celebration in the hospital’s cafeteria which was decked out in pink. Pink bows, beads and hats were distributed on the day the raffle winners were selected.
