Project Delayed by Regs

North Shore-LIJ's
plans to build a freestanding emergency department in Massapequa Park have been put on hold because of the state Department of Health's overhaul of ambulatory care regulations. The system had looked at building an FED in Massapequa, an "underserved health care market, especially when it comes to emergency services," said a spokesman for NS-LIJ. But it held off on purchasing the land because state rules for FEDs are under review. The spokesman said it was "prudent to wait for several months until the state Department of Health completes its review of regulations governing freestanding EDs, urgent care centers and other specialized ambulatory care centers." The system remains interested in opening an emergency or urgent care center in Massapequa depending on the new rules.
