Giles R. Scuderi, MD, vice president of the orthopedic service line at the North Shore-LIJ Health System, has been named by Orthopedics This Week as one of the top 22 North American knee surgeons, the health system announced today.
Dr. Scuderi is an attending orthopedic surgeon at Franklin Hospital in Valley Stream and Lenox Hill Hospital in Manhattan. In 2012, he was the president of the Knee Society, a closed-membership group of orthopedic surgeons, and he has been a member of the society’s executive board in various capacities for the last decade.
The Orthopedics This Week list was compiled through survey results from leaders in the industry. One of the things that Dr. Scuderi was commended for by his colleagues was his crucial role in spearheading The 2011 Knee Society Scoring System, which measures orthopedic surgery outcomes and has helped orthopedic surgeons better evaluate patients.
A graduate of SUNY Downstate College of Medicine, Dr. Scuderi completed his orthopedic residency at Lenox Hill Hospital and a knee fellowship at the Hospital for Special Surgery. He is a fellow of both the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and American College of Surgeons. Dr. Scuderi has received several honors, including Castle Connolly’s Top Doctors Award and the Patients’ Choice Award.
“Dr. Scuderi is a dedicated, innovative orthopedic surgeon who is committed to providing the best care he and his team can for their patients,” said Asha Jacob, DPT, administrative director of orthopedics at Franklin Hospital.
“I am honored to have been recognized in this capacity by my peers and included on this national list of distinguished surgeons,” Dr. Scuderi said.  “Knowing that I have been acknowledged for what I have done, I will continue to work with my team of physician assistants, nurses and physiotherapists to provide the highest quality of care and best outcomes for my patients going forward.”
