Frank J. Besignano Elected SIUH Board Chair

STATEN ISLAND, NY – Staten Island University Hospital (SIUH) today announced that Frank J. Besignano has been appointed chairman of the hospital’s Executive Committee. Colleague John Alexander was elected vice chair and treasurer. SIUH’s new committee leaders will serve a one-year term.
Besignano, a career banker, is Business Development Manager for Signature Bank, a commercial bank serving privately owned businesses, their owners and senior managers. Prior to his position with Signature Bank, he spent 25-years with Island-based SI Bank & Trust and was a member of the executive management team with responsibilities for marketing, business development, corporate communications and compliance. Besignano assumed responsibility for the retail branch network following the Bank’s 2004 merger with Independence Community Bank and later with Sovereign Bank in 2006.
Long dedicated to the SIUH mission of community access to quality healthcare, Besignano has served on the board since 2004, bringing his expertise to the SIUH finance, compensation, audit and compliance committees. He holds membership on the health system’s finance committee, as well. Six years ago, Laura and Frank Besignano co-chaired SIUH’s Charity Ball, an annual fund raiser dating from post-Civil War days. .
A champion of the goals of Staten Island’s not-for-profit organizations, Besignano continues his well-established association on the boards of the Visiting Nurse Association of Staten Island, Staten Island Children’s Campaign and March of Dimes. He has also served on the boards of Boy Scouts of America, United Activities Unlimited, SI Chamber of Commerce and Vision for Staten Island.
The Staten Island Zoo, YMCA, and United Hospital Fund recognized Besignano for his efforts in their behalf, and in 2007, he was recognized as one of the 15 most influential business leaders on Staten Island by Staten Island Business Trends.
Of his new role, Besignano said he feels privileged for the opportunity to lead the Executive Committee at a pivotal time for healthcare and the American people.
