March 28, 2012
Assemblyman Lou Tobacco (R.I.C-Staten Island) today announced that he has accepted a position at Staten Island University Hospital (SIUH) as Director of Surgical Business Development. Assemblyman Tobacco will serve out his term as the South Shore’s assemblyman until December 31.
“I am excited about becoming part of SIUH’s dedicated team of healthcare professionals,” said Tobacco. “As the hospital’s new Director of Surgical Business Development, I look forward to continuing to serve our community by enhancing the region’s healthcare system.”
“With Lou’s background in healthcare, he is perfectly positioned to build on positive relationships with our area’s physicians,” said Joseph T. McGinn, MD, SIUH chairman of surgery and medical director of the Heart Institute. Dr. McGinn noted that Tobacco has held professional positions with some of the top pharmaceutical companies including Novartis, Sanofi-Aventus and, most recently, with Pfizer, Inc. as senior therapeutic specialty representative.
Assemblyman Tobacco noted that his office will still be handling all constituent concerns and questions until December 31, and is urging residents not to hesitate contacting his office.
“I was elected to serve out a two-year term and that is what I intend to do. “I am deeply honored to have been given the chance to serve such a wonderful community, and I look forward to representing Staten Island during the remainder of my term as well as for years to come with SIUH.”
As ranking member of the Assembly Health Committee, Assemblyman Tobacco has done much to enhance our region’s health care while bringing attention to important health-related issues such as: smoking, developmental disability awareness, cancer prevention and cardiac health.
Tobacco was first elected to the New York State Assembly on March 27, 2007. The Assemblyman serves as the Ranking Member of the Health Committee and serves on Ways and Means, Codes, Transportation and Corporations, Authorities and Commissions committees. Lou is also the vice chair of the Assembly Republican Sex Offender Watch Task Force and is a member of the MTA Capital Program Review Board.
